Gardening

Frank and I have just spent a large part of the last two weekends doing something we rarely do, and which neither of us is very good at - that's right gardening, if you can call what we have a garden. It's a bit more like a macropod feeding lot really. I like to see the red-necked wallabies but I'm rather relieved they don't visit too often or we might not have any plants at all.

Last Sunday we had a nice relaxing day, although it was rather cold, but fine, and we didn't have to drive anywhere which made a nice change. We walked to Boronia Peak and then when we got back we pulled some dead tea tree and other unknown dead plants out of the garden. We also removed cages that were empty, or where the plants had outgrown the them. Then we stood around and had a Jimmy Boag's while we burnt the pile of dead tea tree etc. - rather than risk the kids across the road tossing a match in the heap when we weren't around.

Yesterday was fine with a bit of a breeze which meant I got 2 lots of washing dry outside. While it was drying we visited a local native plant nursery in Pomonal and despite Frank's protests that he couldn't carry anymore we bought 22 native seedlings of various sorts. We started to plant them yesterday but gave up in the late afternoon when it got too cold.

This morning there was a bit of mist hovering over the top of Mt Difficult (missing from the photo on the left) but the forecast said fine and so I washed the bedding - big mistake. The mist turned to drizzle and then to light but persistent rain. The bedding is now wetter than when we I pegged it out. Frank said we should finish planting what we'd bought anyway and so we donned raincoats and out we went. He's still out there putting up the last roo barrier while I have retreated inside to the dry.

While digging holes for the plants Frank cut into one of the strange fungi around the place, it unfolded like something emerging from a Jack in the box and left this funny holey ball in it's place.
