100th post - Out and about with Matt & Erin
Matt and Erin came up this weekend was was really nice as they hadn't been for a visit since last October. The weather was pretty hot but we still decided to combine a walk with collecting rubbish from a cave in the park. We took the long walk in and went via the bottom of a pretty little waterfall, which is probably quite impressive when we actually have any decent rain. We had lunch in the shady overhang of the nearby rocks, watching skinks scurrying around and one even standing in the waterfall cooling off.
After lunch we plodded up the hill and tried to find the cave using a GPS reading, but the GPS had the cave over the top of the escarpment and halfway down the hill, which I knew it wasn't. Unfortunately I remembered it as being a little higher up than it actually was but the guys found it anyway. We loaded all the junk into packs and Matt even squeezed through to the back and collected the litter from in there. From the chew marks on the empty food packets I'm guessing a possum took them back there to eat in peace - it was certainly a tight squeeze for a person.
We were rather hot when we got back to the creek and so we decided to cool off before climbing the hill back to the car. Matt found this hole that had obviously been scoured out over the years by water pushing a rock around. It was quite a good fit for him :-)
