Adventures on Mt Gar
Frank decided we should go “adventuring” again today. That usually means a walk off the beaten track or something a bit strenuous. Today was a bit strenuous. According to the books it was only around 8.5km return but it felt more like around 14km and took us 5 hours including breaks for drinks, lunch and photo opportunities.

It was a great walk with a fair amount of rock scrambling and uneven rocky surfaces. We were pretty familiar with the first 45 minutes of the walk as that takes you to the foot of a multi-pitch climb called Queen Bee. There was no-one on it today but there were climbers on the neighbouring Bee Line as we went past.
Have a look at the jaggedy edges on the cliff
It was blowing an absolute gale when we got to the top (808m) so much so that it was hard to stand upright, but the views were awesome. In fact, we had to take these panorama shots from lower than the peak (the trig point) because you couldn't stand steady enough up there!

On the way back down Frank climbed onto a large detached rock for a photo.

Then we detoured to Tilwinda Falls. Not the most spectacular of falls but quite pretty. We should probably be amazed (thankful?) there was actually water!

All in all a nice outing. Tomorrow we’ll be slackers and go to the Ararat farmers market to see what local produce is on offer :-)
