Another training walk under the belt!

Frank and I drove south today and did the Mt Sturgeon and the Picaninny walks, approx. 9.6km with a reasonably strenuous uphill section to the top of Mt Sturgeon.

It took us around four hours but that included stopping for lunch at the top of Mt Sturgeon and for a cuppa at the Picaninny and of course for photo opportunities.

We saw a very nice Hakea (Hakea decurrens or Bushy Hakea) which is pink before the buds open to produce a white flower with a lovely scent. We also saw a nice Banksia (don’t know what sort) and I think some Banded Greenhood orchids (Pterostylis sanguinea) and some nice fungi.

We walked past two trees that had become permanently entwined, and the scenery at the top of Mt Sturgeon was quite dramatic.

Frank took some shots to stitch together into a panorama looking north.

We also got a good view of the Meyer property which you don’t get at ground level because of the huge surrounding sandstone wall.

The last stretch of the walk was about 1.3km along the main road. The picture shows the top of Mt Sturgeon - the tallest peak on the left.
