Thailand - kayaking

We were hoping to climb, kayak and bike ride on Koh Yao Noi but logistics and the weather plotted against us and climbing there was dropped from the agenda. We did spend a very interesting day kayaking though, although Frank and I were “chauffeur driven” and not allowed to paddle :-)

There are a number of islands which have a lagoon in the centre and that are accessible through caves but only at low tide. This first shot is of Matt and Denny going ahead to check if the “gate” was open. As you can see there’s not much room.

Unfortunately as we were waiting for them to return four large tour boats turned up and promptly discharged dozens of kayaks. The guys tell us they had a wonderful paddle around the lagoon by themselves but a great deal of difficulty making their way back out against the tide of humanity struggling to get in!

We promptly left when Matt & Denny returned and went to another lagoon, again accessible only through a cave at low tide, which we had to ourselves. Here are Matt and Erin waiting for the “gate” to open.

Once the water dropped low enough we squeezed on through.

And this is what we found.
