Monasteries and Malls
Frank decided I needed to see why most people come to Singapore - for the shopping. But first we went to visit Lian Shan Shuang Lin Monastery which was on the edge of one of the hundreds of high-rise apartment areas of Singapore. We checked out the old monastery first where people were making various offerings including burning huge bundles of paper money out front and feeding meat to the tiger statue inside.
Then we went next door to the new monastery, complete with very impressive bonsai, timber carving, paintings, and sculptures.
There was a tall pagoda next to the monastery (within the grounds) that had bells hanging all over it, made it seem like the world's largest wind chime. Frank said he was glad he didn't live next door to it but I doubt you would have heard it over the traffic on the nearby road.
Cute lizards. The Iguana looking one on the left was running around the grounds of the bird park. The one on the right was on the footpath leading from one of the high-rise buildings next to the monastery. [The Park Ranger in Sylvia kicked in when we saw this lizard - there was the possibility that it would run onto to the road so she rounded it up and chased it onto the greenery.]
