Singapore the second time around

Carol and Stephen were due to join us for a couple of days in Singapore before we all headed off to Kathmandu. We had pre-booked a hotel closer to the centre of town which had a pool and had saved a trip to the Singapore Zoo to have breakfast with the Orangutans until they arrived :-)

Wednesday we took it easy as they hadn't got much sleep on the night flight either. We went for a walk along Clarke Quay, got a latte (soy for Carol much to her delight) in Orchard Road and checked out the lovely old homes in Emerald Hill. Most of them were in original condition but a few had ghastly modern frontages.

We also caught the modern cable car to Mt Faber and checked out the view of the harbour and surrounding high rises. Frank read later that Singapore has one of the highest population densities in the world (3rd highest) with around 7,000 people per square kilometre - compared with Australia's 3 people per square kilometre.

The highlight of the trip though had to be breakfast at the zoo, and it was good to see most of the inhabitants had nice large enclosures, while still others were free-ranging.
