Lucky or unlucky?

Carol tells me that the young man attacked by a shark last night at Bells Beach was surfing with her son Andrew!

Apparently they had driven down after work and they were surfing off the reef at Bells when it happened. Andrew brought Peter in to shore and there was an off duty nurse on the beach to help along with many others. Peter was airlifted to the Royal Melbourne Hospital and was operated on last night. I'm told his leg is a real mess and he lost an enormous amount of blood although they are confident he won't lose the leg.

You could say he was very unlucky to be attacked but oh so lucky that it wasn't worse and that Andrew was there to help. So tragic too about the 17 year old hiker in the Blue Mountains - I will now stop complaining about Matt being away at the fires!

On Sunday we went out with some guys from the VCC to look at one or two of the fire affected areas and I saw these incredible grass trees growing half way up the cliff face - gosh but they're tough.
