Rawnsley Park Station

We didn’t actually get to the Flinders Ranges until Wednesday afternoon as Frank had to finish something he was working on and we didn’t get away until late Monday afternoon. We decided to take Roger’s recommendation of staying at Rawnsley Park Station. We thought we’d get a powered site but after seeing how closely they were packed we opted for an unpowered bush site in the 100 acres. See if you can spot the camper trailer from the shot we took from the top of Rawnsley Bluff. (The red arrow if you can see it is a bit of a give away :-)

This is the view from the campsite looking back to Rawnsley Bluff which was a 14km or nearly 5 hour walk on which we saw lots of wildflowers and a very cute goanna. The last 5km of which was in the pouring rain despite the weather forecast of fine weather (there's a trend here).

I thought this view and twisted tree near the top of Rawnsley Bluff were pretty awesome.

Rawnsley Bluff as viewed from our campsite in the rain a day or two later.

We’ve done a lot of walking, probably partly due to my trying to get a bit fitter and lose some weight and so I joined this Fit and Healthy steps program at work.

The cheeky program actally asked me if I was sure I had walked as far as I said after the Rawnsley Bluff walk so here is the photographic proof.

We did the walk to Rawnsley Bluff (around 14km or nearly 5 hours), then Mount Ohlssen Bagge (only 6.5km but still 3 hrs seriously uphill) then Arkaroo Rock, Sacred Canyon and Bunyeroo Gorge (13.3km or 3.5hrs (thanks to a navigational error) mostly on the flat :-)). We have seen lots of flowering plants and a fair smattering of reptiles, including some very cute dragons.

View from the summit of Mt Ohlssen Bagge.

Arkaroo Rock

Sacred Canyon

Bunyeroo Gorge - one of the prettiest apart perhaps from Alligator Gorge further south.

Just some of the dragons we saw.
