Bush nasties (or nasty bush?)

Monday afternoon Matt, Erin and I were walking back to the car through some fairly thick bush when a small branch of Hedge Wattle (Kangaroo Thorn) sprang up and got me in the eye. At first I thought I had a piece of vegetation in there but when we got back to the car and Matt and Erin had a closer look they decided a trip to the doctors was required.

Matt ran me into the Stawell Hospital Outpatients while Erin cooked dinner. Turns out I had a "substantial" scratch on the cornea which the doctor didn't much like the look of. She treated it and sent me home with instructions to return in the morning. When we got there Tuesday morning she said if anything it looked worse and I had to go to the Eye and Ear Hospital in Melbourne. The doctor there trimmed the rough edges of the scratch to encourage it to heal faster.

That was Tuesday, today (Friday) I went back and got the all clear - no more trimming required thank goodness as the 24 hours after the last trim it was extremely painful. I just have to put lubricant in every night before bed for the next three months - I think I was very lucky and I can't believe how quickly eyes heal - what a marvellous thing the human body is!

I have included a couple of pictures so you know what to avoid getting in your eyes :-)
