NT holiday - Darwin day 1

As we didn't arrive in Darwin until the very early hours of Sunday morning (cheap flight) the first item on the agenda was some sleep. The place we booked was nice and clean and cool and did the job just nicely. My but accommodation in Darwin and surrounds is expensive. We saw hotel room prices in the Flight Centre window later and Darwin is apparently the most expensive Australian capital - I can well and trully believe that.
After a not too shabby snooze we did Darwin on foot. The city centre, the botanical gardens, the museum and art centre (as recommended by Decima and well worth the visit) and then we went to Mendil Sunday evening market and had a look around, grabbed a bite to eat and watched the sun set with hundreds of other tourists and quite a few locals.

Note to self - if visiting the NT again, try not to coincide with the local school holidays, or the Katherine or Darwin show days and rodeos! It's a long time since I have seen quite so many tourists (Irish, English, French, German and Aussies). There were a lot more than I expected even in Kakadu and Katherine (and Litchfield), it got quite difficult to get away from them all.
